Book a Private Jet to Berlin Tegel Airport

The larger of Berlin’s two airports, Tegel TXL Airport is the primary hub for business and international air traffic in the city. Just 11 kilometres from Alexanderplatz, Tegel Airport is located on the edge of the German capital in Berlin’s Tegel district and is well connected to the city centre by public transport and the motorway. A comprehensive range of exclusive services and amenities is available for private jet passengers at Berlin Tegel.

Operation was discontinued on May 5, 2021 after the airport was officially decommissioned and is now being taken over by the successor airport BER.  The last flight from Berlin Tegel was operated by AirFrance to Paris on November 08, 2020 as a tribute to the first flight that flew from Paris to Tegel.

The History of Berlin Tegel Airport

At the beginning of the 20th century, the 1st Prussian Air Battalion was located on the present site of Berlin’s Tegel Airport. This forerunner of the German air force experimented with different types of airships and other aircraft on the site where TXL Airport now stands. In 1948, French occupying forces and American engineers constructed a provisional airfield with the help of German labour to aid with the Berlin Airlift. In the summer of the same year, construction of the longest runway in Europe at the time (2,428 metres) began at the Tegel site. The first plane landed at Tegel Airport in early November 1948.

Owing to the reconstruction of Berlin and the popularity of Berlin Tempelhof Airport, civil aviation only took off in Berlin Tegel in 1960. At first, only Air France aircraft flew to Tegel Airport. In the following years, other airlines followed, as Tempelhof Airport reached capacity. In 1974, the iconic hexagonal main terminal was built and remains in operation today. After Germany’s reunification in 1990, all restrictions on flights to Berlin were lifted. In addition to the airlines of France, Britain, and America, German airlines were now also able to fly to Berlin Tegel Airport.

The official name of the airport is Otto Lilienthal Airport, after the German aviation pioneer.
